How to Choose the Right Training Style For You

You could be a total beginner or someone who's got fed up with the old routine and now looking to switch up the training a bit. In either case you might be thinking ,

"What the heck am I going to do?"

There are countless training methods out there and in order to choose the best for you, you need to ask a few questions to yourself. Based on your answers you can narrow down your options and maybe choose one or two styles to experiment with. To help you out a little, I'm going to list a few questions here that can help making your selection process somewhat easier. Ask yourself, are you indoor or outdoor person, do you prefer sport training or working with gym equipment, are you training for a sport event, to learn a new skill, to look good or to improve your health and longevity, do you like training alone, in a class environment or with a personal trainer, are you more upbeat or a rather chilled person? Let's take me as an example! I'm usually chilled but when I train I'm quite upbeat so HIT (high intensity training) fits me more - compared to low intensity workouts like yoga or stretch classes. Health and good fitness is important to me so that must be the focus point of my routine. A like to learn new skills, but there are a few staple exercises that are always present in my training. I don't mind being outdoor or indoor and I enjoy sport training, such as tennis, climbing and cycling as well as working with gym equipment. Based on all of those answers I figured out that cross training/CrossFit (of course not the competitive but a personalised version) is the best training method to keep me active, healthy and motivated, whilst having fun. I recommend you to use this approach, as it will help you to avoid spending time doing things that you don't even enjoy. And don't get discouraged if you didn't get it right at the first time. One of the greatest aspect of recreational fitness is that you can switch it up at any time. You don't have the same obligation to your regime like a professional athlete. Feel free to experiment!
